Dundalk edged out in Europa League opener

There was no joy for Dundalk tonight in the first round of the Europa League Group B tie against Molde (Norway) with the Louth men edged out by the odd goal in three at Tallaght Stadium.

The game started positively for Dundalk with Meath men Gary Rogers and Greg Sloggett in the starting 11.

Molde turned on the style in the second half as two goals in 10 minutes denied Dundalk a dream start to their Europa League Group B campaign at Tallaght Stadium.

Sean Murray's first-half goal sent Dundalk into the interval with a 1-0 advantage, but Molde had to up the tempo in the second-half and they grabbed two goals in a 10-minute spell for a deserved victory with the leveller just after the hour mark.

Dundalk also had a 'goal' disallowed in the opening half.

In the other game in the group, Arsenal defeated Rapid Vienna by 2-1.

Dundalk travel to play Arsenal next Thursday, but before that they play Waterford in the Premier League on Sunday.
