Power set for UK stint

Meath sportsperson of the year for 2017 and Aintree Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey Robbie Power will have his first outing in the UK today after making the decision to relocate this week.

Power will partner Shybairnsgetnowt for trainer Colin Tizzard in the 3.50 today at Ffos Las and then will have a busy two days at Chepstow tomorrow and Saturday.

The Meath man will be based in the UK in the short-term after he decided to make the move due to the Covid-19 regulations and restrictions that currently apply.

“It was difficult to decide to come and stay over here, but with the quality of horses that the Tizzards have this year, it was something I kind of had to do,” he commented in a interview on Racing TV.

“I can still return to Ireland on Grade One days and that is what I plan to do, Chris’s Dream is planned to run in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase, so my first return to Ireland will be to ride in Down Royal, all being well," he added.

Power won won the Troytown Chase on the Henry de Bromhead-trained Chris's Dream at Navan last November.
