Funeral of former footballer Robbie Brunton in Ratoath on Monday
The funeral of former League of Ireland footballer, Robbie Brunton, takes place in Ratoath on Monday.
Formerly of Dunard Estate and Ballybough (Dublin), he died yesterday in Beaumont Hospital, peacefully after an illness bravely borne.
He signed for Sligo Rovers in 1994 as manager Willie McStay was departing for Celtic – and made 59 appearances for Rovers during the 94/95 and 95/96 seasons, scoring three goals.
Robbie Brunton developed a fine reputation as a teak-tough all-action left-back and his combative and committed style of play proved popular with Sligo Rovers supporters during his two seasons at the Showgrounds.
Brunton, also went on to play for Derry City, Bohemians, Kilkenny City, Dundalk and Monaghan United, as well as Irish League clubs Coleraine, Newry City and Cliftonville.
He is survived by his wife, Celine, sons, Ryan and Darragh parents, Andrew and Georgina, extended family, in-laws, friends, team-mates and colleagues.
The funeral cortege will leave his home at 10.40am on Monday (5th October) to the Holy Trinity Church, Ratoath arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by cremation in Dardistown Crematorium at 1pm. In compliance with the current HSE guidelines attendance in the Church will be limited to 50 people and the crematorium to 25. Please ensure social distancing is maintained and public health advice is adhered to at all times.
