Good week: You, the people of Meath

No, seriously. You’re all doing yourselves proud this weather. Meath finds itself currently sandwiched between the counties with the two highest incidence rates of Covid-19 – Louth and Dublin – and what’s more, a huge chunk of the county commutes to work through the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart area which has the highest Covid-per-head rate in the country. Yet the rate in Meath is in good shape – around 60 cases in the last two weeks, compared to over 3,000, and the rate is half the national average.

Bad week: Avril Lavigne

Yes, Avril Lavigne – as in the Canadian punk songstress, of ‘Complicated’ and ‘Sk8er Boi’ fame. Firstly, because 41-year-old Leo Varadkar believes mentioning Avril Lavigne is a contemporary pop culture reference despite not having a chart since Varadkar entered the Dáil. Secondly, because Lavigne was vicariously linked to an unseemly incident where Varadkar had a smoothie thrown over him in Merrion Square.
