North Meath is the 'capital of potholes'

The Kells Municipal District which includes the Athboy, Oldcastle, and North Meath areas have received the most complaints from members of the public regarding potholes to date this year.

The figures were obtained by Cllr Mike Bray through a Notice of Question at the September meeting of Meath County Council shows that 161 complaints (37 per cent) have been made by members of the public to the council regarding the poor condition roads in the Kells MD to date this year.

Cllr Bray said: "The areas in the Kells Municipal District are once again top of the table in terms of the poor repair of our roads as has been the case for the past number of years."

"This again emphasises the point that the roads in the Athboy, Kells, Oldcastle and North Meath areas need to be allocated funding for road infrastructure based on the condition of our roads and not on the population of the area.

"The Kells MD has the longest network of roads in the county with nearly one million kilometres of roads and also has the most number of roads in need of repair and restoration as my question at the September council meeting has shown. I would encourage people to contact the council to report the presence of potholes on their local roads. The more data and statistics the council have from members of public on the condition of our roads, the better the case which can be made to central government for funding for our roads infrastructure," concluded Cllr Bray.
