Delight in Dunshaughlin and Enfield as new schools welcome their first pupils

There was excitement in Dunshaughlin and Enfield last week when two news schools opened their doors for the first time.

Martin O'Brien, CEO and Cllr Nick Killian, Chairman of Louth Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) were on hand to meet the students at the new Dunshaughlin Community National School and Enfield Community College.

Thirteen new students arrived at the new Dunshaughlin primary school which is located in temporary accommodation at the local GAA grounds, while 32 students started at Enfield Community College, which is in the Hamlet Hotel for the next few weeks, but will then move to the old ESB offices in the town.

"The continued provision of new educational facilities has been to the forefront of the work of the Louth Meath Training Board for the past number of years and this week, two new schools in Meath opened their doors at primary and post primary,” said Cllr Killian.

“It was wonderful meeting the lovely smiley faces of the boys and girls and the excited parents in Dunshauglin.

“Dunshaughlin is growing every week with new houses and the school has its permanent structure currently at planning permission. It will be constructed on a site on the Dublin Road beside the Willows.

“In Enfield I was delighted to meet Principal Shane Foley on the temporary site in the former ESB offices on Main street, where 32 new students and eight teachers will commence teaching shortly.

“The students are currently in the Hamlet Hotel, for the next few weeks.”

He said the leadership in pursuing the Department of Education for funding for new structures is provided by CEO Martin O'Brien, who has a strong reputation in the delivery of new educational facilities in both Louth and Meath.

“In education history this was a very good week for Meath," Cllr Killian said.

The principal of Dunshaughlin Community National School is Yvonne Slevin, who previously taught in St Mary’s Primary School in Trim while Shane Foley former principal of Dunshaughlin Community College is at the helm of the new school in Enfield,

The opening of the new Enfield Community College has been the culmination of years of campaigning by local families for a school for the south Meath town.
