We're calling on all parents of new junior infants to send us their photos and messages from home of their star pupils looking forward to their first week in school.

First Day at School: Send us your photos and messages

As schools prepare to reopen for the new term in a new normal, parents and principals will be doing all they can to ensure the safety of students and staff as we all do our best to keep Covid-19 away.

Traditionally, the Meath Chronicle would now be busy contacting schools and compiling the list for our photographers to go and snap the class photos of the new junior infants as they take the first steps of their school lives.

This year, given the extensive list of tasks and responsibilities facing principals, teachers and staff in ensuring social distancing and movement restrictions, we have decided that it's best for us not to add to that pressure.

We won't be calling to the county's national schools unless expressly contacted by school principals/teachers and where all permissions and protocols are in place. In that instance please email us at gavan.becton@meathchronicle.ie. We'd be only delighted to call out if welcome!

What we are doing however, is calling on all parents of new junior infants (and indeed, any other years) to send us their photos and messages from home of their star pupils in their unifiorms, looking forward to their first week in school. You can do that by clicking here

We will endeavour to print them all in the Meath Chronicle during September as we celebrate the incoming class of 2020 - a very special group of students starting school in a very strange year.

Good luck and best wishes to all our starting/returning pupils, their families, teaching and school staff!
