130,000 homes and businesses remain without power across country

There have been reports that a number of homes in the Dunshaughlin area are without power this morning due to Storm Ellen, as two new Status Yellow wind and rain warnings have been issued.

130,000 homes and businesses remain without power across the country today as a result of the storm.

Storm Ellen hit the country yesterday evening, with gusts of over 100 kilometres per hour recorded in parts of the country.

A gust of 143 kilometres per hour was recorded at Roche’s Point in Cork, according to Met Éireann.

Met Éireann has now issued two Status Yellow warnings.

A rainfall warning for the entire country came into effect at 9am and will be in place until 5am tomorrow, with heavy downpours and thunderstorms forecast, bringing a risk of spot flooding at times.

A wind warning for Meath, Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford will be in effect from 5pm this afternoon until 5am tomorrow with very strong winds overnight and a continued risk of coastal flooding.
