Siskinmania for Sussex Stakes!

After a couple of placed efforts at Ballybrit Colin Keane signed off from the 2020 Galway Festival this evening with a winner when landing a handicap with the well-supported Out On Friday.

The Trim jockey will miss the rest of the action as he will be on duty at Goodwood tomorrow when partnering the Ger Lyons-trained Siskin in the Sussex Stakes.

Keane will also be on board the fancied Steel Bull for Curragh trainer MD O'Callaghan in a valuable Class 1 handicap.

However, all the focus will be on Siskin in the Qatar Sussex Stakes.

The Lyons-trained star won four times as a juvenile last season which included the Phoenix Stakes and this year landed the Irish 2,000 Guineas to stretch his unbeaten record to five.

“It was brilliant to win the Irish Guineas, we know he definitely stays a mile now and it’s probably not out of the question he could stay further," commented Keane about Siskin.

Andrew Balding’s Kameko, Marcus Tregoning’s Mohaather and Aidan O’Brien’s Circus Maximus provide the main opposition.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions Keane will have to quarantine for 14 days with Gowran Park on Wednesday 12th August a provisional return date.

“It’s not ideal, but I might not get to ride the likes of Siskin for another while, he’s definitely the best horse I’ve ridden and it’ll be worth it, I hope," added the Meath jockey.

Siskin is favourite and the race is off at 3.15pm
