Bryan McMahon helped himself to two goals in Ratoath's win over Syddan

Ratoath romp to easy win over Syddan

Ratoath....8-14

Syddan...0-7

Just when Syddan thought their A FL Div 1 nightmare was over a revamped and shortened version of the league saw them retain their top flight status and they were easy fodder for SFC champions Ratoath as the long awaited return to action ended on Friday evening.

Syddan were short a number of key players and that didn't help their cause but they went down with barely a whimper to the fully focussed hosts who went on a goal rampage.

Ratoath had this one sewn up and were out of sight before the end of the first water break when leading 2-7 to 0-0 after 15 minutes.

Syddan had no answer to the speed and precision of the home side who had four points on the board before Conor Rooney struck for their opening goal after seven minutes.

Daithi McGowan, Connell Ahearne and Cian Rogers added further points and the Ratoath attack was rampant at that stage despite Eamonn and Joey Wallace being notable absentees.

Rooney pounced for a second goal on the quarter hour mark and Daithi McGowan added another point before Cormac Rowe opened the Syddan account on 18 minutes.

Rowe and his brother Daire added further scores for Syddan before half-time but at the break Ratoath were ahead 3-10 to 0-3, with their third goal a simple slap in from Bryan McMahon.

Daire Rowe had the opening score of the second-half from a free but it got even worse for Syddan after that and sub Padraic Byrne and Connell added further goals in the space of 60 seconds.

By the end of the third quarter it was 6-12 to 0-5, Daire Rowe being on target with the Syddan point. Cormac Rowe took his tally of points to four for Syddan before the finish, but most of the action was at the other end of the pitch as Ratoath piled on the scores.

Ryan Summersby denied Ahearne with a goal line block on 53 minutes but Ahearne made amends shortly after with his second goal. McMahon completed the rout as he took his tally to 2-4 with the eighth goal just before the end.
