Search continues for missing filmmaker

The family of a Walterstown man missing since Monday of last week has made a heartfelt appeal for information on his whereabouts.

Colin Downey has been missing from his home in Walterstown since Monday night/ Tuesday morning.

His parents, Marian and Dick along with his brother, Trevor have appealed for information on his whereabouts and have urged Colin to get in contact .

A major search operation is currently way involving Gardai, Meath River Rescue, Meath Civil Defence and local volunteers.

The Downey family has expressed their thanks to everyone involved for all they have done in the last few days.

The garda diving, search and dog units, as well as Meath Civil Defence, Meath River Rescue and volunteers from the local community, the Community Text Alert and Walterstown GAA have been involved in the search, as well as the Garda air support unit.

An incident room has been set up in Navan Garda Station with Supt Sean Farrell co-ordinating.

Colin was last seen at his home around 9pm on Monday. He is described as being of average build, around 5ft 11ins,with dark medium length hair.

He is believed to be wearing a black jacket, dark trousers and wellies,

Ken Reilly of Walterstown Community Text Alert said there had been a fanastic turn out from the local community with hundreds turning out every night.

They have searched lands at Walterstown, Gilltown, Johnstown, Skryne and Kentstown

“There has been a massive effort by the community and we have received great help from the Gardai, Meath River Rescue and Meath Civil defence.

“The local Gun Club and people from neighbouring parishes have also been a great help.”

Meath River Rescue have been searching the river, local land and outhouses and a major search is due to take place today involving the Garda Helicopter.

A local man has also assisted by flying a plane over the search area.

Colin is a popular young man who is very involved in the film industry.

Last week, filmmaker Randal Plunkett of Dunsany Castle wrote: "A good friend of mine has gone missing and his parents have notified the guards. Colin Downey is a top guy and a good friend. If anyone knows where he might be or have seen him in the last 24 hours please notify Navan Garda Station immediately."

Colin wrote and directed the feature film 'Daria', which won a gold award at the Los Angeles Film Review Independent Film Awards.

He was also Director of Photography for the feature film, 'The Fading Light' which won best Irish film at the Jameson International Film Festival in Dublin.
