'The Last Duel' filming at Bective postponed due to Covid-19

Filming of  Hollywood movie 'The Last Duel', which was due to take place at Bective next week, has been postponed because of the Covid-19 situation.

To be directed by Ridley Scott, the production company behind the film advertised for huge numbers of extras, and hundreds turned up at an open casting at Liberty Hall, Dublin, last month.

‘The Last Duel’ is an epic period feature film which was due to be shot in various parts of Ireland over the coming months. It will star Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer. Filming was set to mostly take place around Dublin, Wicklow, Meath and Tipperary.  Affleck, Damon and Nicole Holofcener have written the screenplay which is based on the book ‘The Last Duel’ by Eric Jager.  Set in Medieval France, the story is a tale of betrayal and justice.

Filming was expected to take at Bective Bridge from 23rd to 30th March, with the road closed during that period.

The producers say: "Following the global pandemic of Corona Virus (Covid 19) and the Irish Government’s advice to limit indoor events to less than 100 people, we have taken the decision to delay the start of principal photography in Ireland. We would like to thank all of you for your interest and hope to be speaking to you all again in a few weeks time!"
