Action from today's FAI Junior Cup game between Trim Celtic and Ferrybank

Ferrybank too strong for Trim Celtic

Trim Celtic's run in the FAI Junior Cup ended at the MDL today when they were knocked out in the sixth round by Waterford side Ferrybank.

Two second-half goals paved the way to what was a deserved victory for a strong Ferrybank side at a windswept venue.

Both teams adapted well to the conditions and endeavoured to produce a competitive and hard-fought encounter.

On the overall balance of play the Waterford men were well worth a two-goal victory although they failed to make any impact in the opening 45 minutes when backed by the elements.

The opening goal arrived from Thomas Whitty on the hour when he unleashed a fine effort from over 20 metres to the top corner of the net.

Trim Celtic substitute Colm Carney was denied an 82nd minute equaliser when his shot hit the post and at the other end Ferrybank substitute Stephen Immiren finished to the net with his first touch.
