Death of former Kilmessan and Meath hurler, John Curtis

The funeral takes place in Kilmessan tomorrow (Christmas Eve) of John Curtis, a legendary figure  during his hurling career with Kilmessan and Meath.
Aged 81, he died on Sunday morning after a long illness, peacefully at home.
In 2018, he was the recipient of the Kilmessan Hurling Club Hall of Fame award, in recognition of his club and county honours.
He was the holder of eight senior hurling club championship medals with Kilmessan, including on two of the famous three-in-a-row teams of the late seventies, and a senior football championship with Skryne.
He won an All Ireland JHC medal, and two National League Division 2 medals in 1962 and '72.
He was also a noted runner, with success in athletics and cross country events.
A member of one of the parish's oldest families, he farmed at Riverstown, Kilmessan.
Predeceased by his son Padraic, he is survived by his wife, Anne; family, Valerie, Suzanne, Martina, Jonathan, and Christopher;  12 grandchildren and great-grandson; sons-in-law David, Alan and Thomas, daughters-in-law Darlene and Michelle, sister Peg, brother Pat, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He is reposing at his home at Riverstown (Eircode C15 PV06) today, Monday from 2pm to 8pm. Removal on Tuesday morning (Christmas Eve) to the Church of the Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Kilmessan, arriving for Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
