St Pat's and Marist in action.

Spurned chances prove costly for St Pat's

Wasted opportunities cost St Pat's dearly as they lost out 2-8 to 2-10 against Marist, Athlone in the Leinster Colleges' SFC at Pairc Tailteann today.

The Navan side had plenty of possession but they often wasted good chances and this was to contribute to their defeat.

St Pat's led 2-2 to 1-3 at the interval thanks partly to the brilliant play of Niall Finnerty who bagged all of the team's scores before the interval.

Conor Rushe bagged Marist's goal with Ben Carroll (two) and Eoghan McCabe also pointing for them.

Finnerty added another point before he went off in the second-half with an injury with Sean Brennan, Louis Collins, Oisin Martyn, Edward Nash and Darragh Reilly also splitting the posts for the Navan side.

It looked to be enough to secure the victory for St Pat's however they conceded a late goal that was also to prove very costly for them.

The defeat means St Pat's now must play their next phase game away from home.
