Clancy scoops manager of the year accolade

Trim man Tim Clancy last night scooped the First Division Manager of the Year award at the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland's (PFAI) annual awards night in Dublin.

Clancy is in his second year in management after a lengthy playing career in Scotland and England and he finished with a short stint in the League of Ireland with Shamrock Rovers, Sligo Rovers and Bray Wanderers.

He stepped into the management role at Drogheda Utd for the 2018 season after the Louth side was relegated from the Premier in 2017.

Last season he guided Drogheda to a promotion play-off where they were edged out by Finn Harps who wnet on to defeat Limerick in the final.

This season Clancy took Drogheda a step further and got to the final against Finn Harps but the Donegal side prevailed 2-1 winning in extra-time in the second leg at Finn Park. 

Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy presented the awards and the Premier Division accolade was won by Jack Byrne (Shamrock Rovers). Dundalk boss Vinny Perth took the Manager of the Year accolade, Danny Mandroiu (Bohemian FC) scoopedthe young player award.

Separately, Jimmy Corcoran from Drumbaragh has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under-19 panel for the UEFA Under-19 European Championship qualifiers in Austria this week.

The u-19 manager Tom Mohan played under-age in the North East Counties Schoolboys League in the 1990s for Oriel Celtic and maintaining that link, Corcoran also played in the NECSL with Kells / Blackwater.
