Hector's American coast to coast road trip begins on TG4

Ireland's most famous intrepid traveller, Navan man Hector O hEochagain, opens our eyes to "his America'" as he takes on the road trip of a lifetime from coast to coast as he treks across the Southern States from Savannah on the Atlantic to San Diego on the Pacific. Hector USA will be road tripping from Georgia through Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana into Texas, New Mexico and Arizona before finishing up on the Pacific seaboard in California. Covering eight states and more than 5000 miles on the road, it will be one helluvan awesome adventure with Hector taking us to a world only he can access.

Episode 1 – Georgia 

Hector speeds his way into the US and after a brief holdup by the cops, the road trip begins in Georgia as Hector takes to the waters with Captain Charlie Phillips. He links up with Sheriff Larry Dean to get the lowdown on how safe Georgia is before meeting up with former marine, Chris Hill and the Georgia Security Force III. He’ll be singing with the Gospel Choir in Martin Luther King’s Church before taking a spin in General Lee as he revisits his young days of the Dukes of Hazard. From guns to racism to high school sports he gets his first taste of America on his epic journey.

Episode 2 Alabama

Hector crosses over into Sweet Home Alabama. After some Bass Fishing in Lake Smith, he meets up with the Blind Boys of Alabama for a singsong before heading to Selma to walk on Edmund Pettus Bridge where he meets some of the people who were there on Bloody Sunday in 1965. He’ll be at a training session with the Auburn College Football Team before getting some pageant training with the most desired pageant coach in the nation, Bill Alverson. He’s on the road again then heading further south where he’s part of the blessing of the boats ‘Irish Style’ with the Bishop.

Episode 3 – Mississippi 

Hector will be meeting up with the famous outspoken coach Buddy Stephens from ‘Last Chance You’ on Netflix, He’ll be linking up Scott Shepherd, the former KKK leader, heading out on a sting with the Alcohol Enforcement crew in Jackson, meeting up with the Hellfighter Bikers in Laurel before getting the inside story on the obesity in the country with an early weight loss boot camp with Paul Lacoste. He’ll then be hitting the road for blues country and taking to the waters of the Mississippi with John Ruskey in Clarksdale before singing some tunes with Elvis in his hometown birthplace, Tupelo
 

Episode 4 – Louisiana 

Hector hits New Orleans with a bang as he parties on the infamous Bourbon Street, gets kitted out and joins a stag party parading in the street before he meets up with General Russel Honore who was the commander of the US forces when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. He gets unique access to the Elayn Hunt Prison where the boxing team is a desired privilege for the prisoners, meets up with some roller derbying girls and pops on some monster trucks and then for the highlight of his trip through Louisiana as he heads out on the Swamp with the amazing T-Roy Broussard.
 

Episode 5 - Texas 

Hector’s journey continues as he hits the beaches at Galveston before meeting up with nine-time Gold winning Olympic sprinter, Carl Lewis, trying out some arm wrestling and then heading for Dallas. It’s a lot of long hauling on the interstates as he turns South again for San Antonio and gets up and close with some cowboys buying a hat and going to the rodeo. Then it’s time for the epic trip across the desert to El Paso to meet the Border Patrol and get his first view of the infamous Mexican wall.

Episode 6 - New Mexico 

Hector’s epic journey takes him North now into desert lands as he hits Albuquerque and Santa Fe. He’ll be out delivering water to the Navajo people with the famous ‘Water Lady’, spending time with the hippies in Madrid, checking out some MMA fighters and a Breaking Bad tour in Albuquerque and then heading to a soccer game with some New Mexico United fans.
