Young Clare musician releases debut single

County Clare based singer/songwriter Máirtín Torpey will release his debut single ‘Take Me Away’ on Friday. Better known by his stage name ‘MT’, Máirtín has been developing his craft locally having already performed in the UK and North America.
Máirtín is currently recording and producing an EP, which will feature this single. The EP is due for release early next year. Máirtín has built a strong onstage persona as ‘MT’ - one that is quiet, yet confident, and reflects his own unique and soulful style. Máirtín’s performances and writings feature strong vocals backed by subtle acoustic tones.
The 23 year-old musician launched his solo career at Scotland’s world-famous music venue, The Leith Depot, during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Máirtín has been studying music since he was sixteen and started out performing acoustic sets at music venues across Clare and its surrounding counties. He lists The Beatles, Bon Iver, and Oasis among his influences.

Last year Máirtín performed on the US east coast where he joined Americana group The Burns Sisters and Bobby Sweet at the Songbird Songwriter Festival in Ithaca, New York. Later he performed alongside the group in Ireland during their European tour.
Ahead of the release, Máirtín said: “I am delighted to be releasing this new and original material. It has taken many months of hard work and I am really looking forward to seeing how it is received by friends and family.”
Máirtín’s single is hotly anticipated in his native Clare where he has attracted a growing local following. ‘Take Me Away’ is an electric guitar-driven, alt-rock/pop song about wishing to leave a current state of mind and was co-written with Máirtín’s cousin Darragh Purcell.
Music plays a strong role in this particular family as Máirtín is the eldest son of well-known Clare native and musician Kate Purcell, a successful solo artist who regularly tours internationally with acclaimed group Cherish The Ladies.
‘Take Me Away’ is available on all online streaming platforms from Friday, 27th September 2019.
