100 jobs for Kells with opening of new Kells Motorway Services

A new motorway service station creating 100 local jobs has been given the green light for Kells. The new Kells Motorway Services is due to open in spring 2020 and will stand on a three-acre site at Town Parks, Cavan Road, Kells, beside the Aldi Store just off the M3.

The project that recently received planning permission will create 50 jobs during the construction phase and 50 when it opens. Conveniently located to service local people as well as motorists travelling on the M3, N3 and N52 it promises to an extensive facility with a convenience store and a number of high profile eateries on site.

Owner Micheal McKeon said, “After a long process of design and planning our team are just delighted to have received confirmation that the planning permission for the new motorway services in Kells was granted by An Bord Pleanála.

"The complex will include a ‘convenience store and extended dining experience’ with a very family orientated approach. The building will also be different to what you expect a motorway service station to look like, e.g. it will have an eco-friendly SEDUM Grass Roof, be constructed using Glulam wooden beams as well as using glass, steel and wood”.

Damien Duffy who will manage the new facility said;  "We are all very excited that this project that has been in the planning for a long time is now ready to start construction. As local people already know ‘Quality is our Recipe’ in McKeon’s Love Fresh in Kells and this will be the ethos in the new facility. The services we will be offering include Circle K Fuel with an area for Trucks & Buses ; a food court with large seating area comprising of a Barista Coffee lounge; fabulous fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings which will be served all day, and where possible we will be using locally sourced quality products; we will also have Kanoodle – freshly prepared Thai and Vietnamese Food; SuperMacs; Papa John’s Pizza; and a ‘Drive Through’ food facility.

"I will be looking to recruit some 50 staff early next year. Comprehensive training will be given in advance of the official opening in spring at a date to be confirmed”.
