Motorists facing road closures and diversions at busy Navan junction

Works to improve safety at the junction of the old N3 and the N51 at the fire station in Navan was due to start today (Tuesday).
The work will give greater priority to pedestrians at the junction, where 11-year-old Elrich Caputo was fatally injured in 2016.

The junction has been the scene of several other accidents and near misses.

As the work progresses, Navan motorists will face periodic road closures for the next three months .

Meath County Council has pointed out that these closures are required not just to facilitate the works, but also to help provide safe passage for pedestrians through the junction during the construction phase.

The work involves providing pedestrian crossings on all four arms of the junction.
Drivers coming from the Dublin direction will no longer be able to turn left into the shopping centre and there will be no left turn for motorists coming from the shopping centre direction - they will have to continue straight across.
