Drogheda's Global Game Jam sees five games created

Drogheda’s first ever Global Game Jam held by Nebula Innovations wrapped up on Sunday in the Mill Enterprise Hub, Drogheda. In 48 hours, teams and individuals created and coded five different video games from virtual reality games to 2D and 3D games under the theme “What home means to me”.

The event was streamed internationally by the Global Game Jam. Ages from seven years old and upwards attended at the event. Nebula Innovations, publisher of Mobile games, PC games previously held mini Game jams in Dundalk Institute of Technology during Easter and Halloween but this is the first time a Global Game Jam was held in Drogheda.

Game Jam is an international hackathon focused on game development for game developers, sound engineers and graphic designers. It’s a team based 48-hour event where a theme is given for a game and the theme is used to develop a video game for Pc, Console, VR , board game or mobile game within that time. The event was sponsored by The Mill Drogheda’s Enterprise Hub, DKIT, DIFE, and the M1 Skillnet.

“It was a great result for the first time running the event and I really enjoyed the enthusiasm of all the participants during it,” said Colin Guilfoyle, organiser of the Drogheda Game Jam and owner of Nebula Innovations. “Hopefully we can build on this next year and host an even bigger entry for the Global Games Jam," he added. 

Nebula Innovations is an established publisher of iOS, Android and PC games. It also creates games under contract for third parties as well as developing applications and software for mobile, web based and in house systems.
