Sean Cox launch

McEntee issues call to arms in support of Sean Cox

Meath manager Andy McEntee is urging all supporters, and that includes Meath, Dublin and Liverpool fans, to get to Pairc Tailteann on Sunday 16th December for the Sean Cox Fundraiser where the Royals will take on four-in-a-row All-Ireland champions Dublin.
Former Dunboyne GAA chairman Sean Cox was attacked and injured prior to the start of Liverpool's Champions League semi-final clash with AS Roma at Anfield back in April and requires extensive treatment that is expected to continue for years.
The game against Dublin in Pairc Tailteann was officially launched in Dunboyne Castle Hotel with Andy McEntee joined by players from both teams as well as members of the Cox family and officials from the Co Board, Leinster Council and Dunboyne GAA club.
The game is expected to attract a crowd of 10,000 to Pairc Tailteann.

Meath boss McEntee was joined by players Mickey Burke, Shane McEntee, Seamus Lavin and Gavin McCoy while Dublin's Michael Darragh McAuley and Eric Lowndes also supported the promotion.
McEntee is looking forward to the game and is hoping for a massive turn out in Pairc Tailteann to contribute to a very worthy cause.
“This is all for a fantastic cause. The bottom line here is that we show as much support for Sean, Martina and the family as possible,” the Meath manager told the Meath Chronicle.
“At the same time the game should be a good entertainment and as cheap a form of entertainment as anyone is going to get over the Christmas period.
“There seems to be a huge interest in it already. There are quite a few tickets sold before we even launched it here tonight.
“Dublin are the number one team in the country and they are always going to attract a big following.
“The fit for the occasion also seems right given Sean's involvement with Round Towers and Jim Gavin's involvment with Round Towers too.
“There is also Sean's involvement with Dunboyne and Meath and my involvement with Dunboyne and Meath too so it just seemed like a good fit, so hopefully everybody will get behind this,” said McEntee.
Reflecting on just how tough it has been for the Cox family and the wider Dunboyne and GAA community McEntee admitted he has been delighted with the response from the community.
McEntee joked that despite being a 'Dub' Sean was still a hugely popular member of Dunboyne GAA and he worked tirelessly for the club.
“There has been huge support from the Meath and Dunboyne community for Sean, but even beyond that the support has been amazing.
“Obviously the GAA is huge nationwide, there are Liverpool supporters clubs all over the country, everybody has been touched by what has happened to Sean.
“This is an opportunity nationwide for people to support Sean. They don't have to go to the match, there is a GoFundMe page where they can go to support Sean's fund.
“Sean is a great member of Dunboyne, even though he is a Dub himself and he wears that bloody blue jersey, he is still a very popular member of Dunboyne.
“He was chairman of the club here for a number of years and he made a huge amount of new initiatives and he got very much involved in the fundraising activities throughout the club, so it is only right that we get behind him.”
Looking ahead to the game against Dublin McEntee is delighted to get the opportunity to pit his young troops against the best in the country and while he acknowledges his side have a hectic schedule on the horizon he is chomping at the bit to get back up and running.
“Any time you get to test yourself against Dublin has got to be a good occasion and that is the challenge for everybody. We will get three games in the space of eight days, so it is a good way to go into the Christmas,” concluded the Meath manager.
