Silverware for Rathmolyon

Rathmolyon won the Div 2 HC at Pairc Tailteann today with a 3-5 to 0-9 victory against Clann na nGael.

Darren Hennessey's early goal was a major boost for Rathmolyon who were first on the scoreboard through a well-taken Dillon Douglas point from play.

Clann na nGael got back into contention with points from Diarmuid O Donnchadha, Shane Leavy from a '65' and Paul Daly's pointed free, but they were rocked when Hennessey added a second Rathmolyon goal in the 13th minute.

Rathmolyon were on the defensive for the remainder of the half, but a combination of some stout defending and good saves by netminder Karl Brennan restricted Clann na nGael to three pointed Daly frees.

After facing the wind, Rathmolyon took a 2-1 to 0-6 interval advantage to the dressing room and then went on to deliver an assured
second-half performances that secured the titile and gave the club a much-needed boost.

The second-half dominance resulted from a Mike Cole goal and three points and one point from team captain John Harnan who received the trophy from Leinster GAA PRO Martin O'Halloran - a proud Rathmolyon man.
