Navan RC to stage annual cyclocross event

Members of the public will have a chance to get a flavour of a relatively new type of cycling to these shores that's growing in popularity when Navan Road Club stages their annual cyclocross event at Blackwater Park on Sunday.

Navan RC have for a few years now staged the event which gets underway at 10am with underage races, followed by the women's race. Then there is the men's  A and B races that are scheduled to get underway early in the afternoon.

A special course will be marked out for the races with Navan RC's John Nolan expecting in the region of 100 cyclists from all over Ireland to take part.

Cyclocross racing is very popular in parts of continental Europe and is steadily gaining in popularity in Ireland, particularly in the northern part of the country.

The Navan races will be supported by Meath Co Council with the cyclists expected to negotiate obstacles, and perhaps lots of mud, if they are hoping to achieve success.
