Fanfare as one era ends in Kildalkey and another begins

Education Minister Richard Bruton and the new Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan opened the new national school in Kildalkey amid great fanfare today.

The Minister and the Bishop rolled into the village early to play their parts in opening the new 4 million four school.

The event was attended by a large number of local people and among them was Paddy Corrigan who attended Kildalkey NS when it was based in what was known as the 'Almshouse' locally. Paddy turned the key on the old school, heralding the end of one era and the start of another.

Many others who had attended Kildalkey NS over the years were in attendance such as James Hesnan, a member of a 12-strong family that grew up locally. All 12 members attended the school.

Bishop Deenihan spoke of the importance of the community in building and sustaining a school while Minister Bruton spoke of his delight in opening a school in his "native county."
