Brigid Carney's contribution to Meath and KIllyon camogie recognised

Brigid Carney was the guest of honour at a social evening in Moran's Hill of Down on Saturday night when her contribution to Meath camogie was recognised,

Stepping down from her role as chair of Killyon Camogie Club after 43 years was officially recognised with a number of presentations and interviews by popular MC Frank Dempsey.

Apart from Brigid, who admitted to going to Croke Park for the first time to cheer for Louth when they won the All-Ireland SFC title in 1957, interviews took place with her husband JJ and also with former player Freda Ward who disclosed some secrets from a trip to Galway that Brigid organised some years ago for KIllyon camogie team.

Brigid, a Louth native, explained how she attended that 1957 All-Ireland final with her father and her brother and she also recalled with pride the fact that she was involved in many of the activities that marked the centenary of the Camogie Association in 2004 with a commemorative game played in Pairc Tailteann in Navan. The first official game of camogie was played at the Navan venue (the Showgrounds) in 1904.
