Linesman Hugo Whoriskey kept Seneschalstown selector Oisin McConville on a tight rein today at Stamullen

Tormey goal crucial for Donaghmore / Ashbourne

Donaghmore / Ashbourne had to dig deep for a 1-12 to 1-11 first round SFC victory against Seneschalstown at Stamullen today.

This was a hard-hitting encounter with the outcome effectively decided in the opening minutes of the second-half when interval substitute Andrew Tormey marked his return from injury with 1-1 in the space of two minutes while at the other end Seneschalstown's Bryan Clarke pointed a penalty.

The combination of those incidents left Donaghmore / Ashbourne ahead by 1-9 to 1-6 after they went in level (0-8 to 1-5) at half-time.

Cathal Finnegan's late first-half goal was a boost for Seneschalstown and eased the sideline moaning briefly although the exchanges between Seneschalstown's Oisin McConville (selector) and linesman Hugo Whoriskey was always of the entertaining variety - even if it was hard on the eardrums at times.

Joe Sheridan was a late inclusion on the Seneschalstown as he was home from Fiji unexpectedly and he made a valuable contribution, but it was Bryan Menton who was the most infleuntial player for the hour.

Injuries were also a facor with Donaghmore / Ashbourne losing JP Casserly with an early shoulder injury and Seneschalstown finishing without Robbie Wogan (knee).

Scorers: Donaghmore / Ashbourne - Darragh McGovern 0-4; Andrew Tormey 1-1; Shane Melia 0-2; Thomas McGovern 0-2; Paul Gilligan 0-1; Dylan Brady 0-1; Leo Reilly 0-1.
Seneschalstown - Cathal Finnegan 1-2; Bryan Clarke 0-4; Robbie Wogan 0-3; Joe Sheridan 0-2.

CO BOARD

Meath Co Board produced a general match programme that will cover the SFC first and second round games and it was on sale for €2.
Didn't actually see one, but I believe the Donaghmore / Ashbourne team was correct as per the programme and the Seneschalstown team was not correct as per the programme.
