The silverware last night - including an imposter

O'Mahonys awards night a big success

Navan O'Mahonys hosted a hugely successful presentation evening at the Newgrange Hotel last night.

There was an extra treat for guests when it was announced that a Q&A with Sean Boylan and Paul Galvin would be an added attraction and for that particular event, Donal Hogan was an excellent MC.

Some interesting questions were posed and the replies were fairly straightforward with Sean Boylan outlining the tactics that worked for him that brought success for the Meath team – it was an interesting observation on a night that the footballers lost to Tipperary in the NFL Div 2.

Paul Galvin also suggested that the GAA needed a strong Meath team to compete with Dublin and that it is an urgent matter at this stage. (You can watch the 52-minute Q&A on Meath Chronicle Facebook).

A successful year for the club saw trophies in football and hurling with the u-age footballers continuing to make progress as the club strives to reach the summit of Meath football again.

Co Board vice-chariman John Kavanagh referred to the success of Simonstown Gaels (two in-a-row) in his brief comments and also highlighted the tremendous progress the football section of the club is making at under-age.

There was also generous praise for the hurlers from the Co Board vice-chairman who congratulated all involved with the IHC and JHC final wins.

Fr Declan Hurley praised the overall contribution of the club for the community and quipped - “There are two men in black here tonight, myself and Paul Galvin, I must be doing something right.”

The camogie and ladies football awards were also presented.

See this week's Meath Chronicle for photos and other details and thanks to the O'Mahonys committee for the invite - a great night.
