Opening on Good Friday

Toasting Good Friday pub opening in Trim

Trim publican Tom Lenihan of James Griffin Pub has welcomed the decision to allow the sale of alcohol on Good Friday, but has said he is undecided on whether to break the 90 year old tradition and open his doors.
“While I welcome the decision made, I am undecided whether or not to break that 90 year old tradition and open my doors. Good Friday, for us at the James Griffin Pub, was always a day of work anyway. There are always repairs to do and Good Friday was a perfect day to complete these,” he said.
“In a recent poll running on our facebook page, 63 per cent voted to remain closed. This was a very surprising result- for years I have been listening to ‘when are they going to lift this ban’.“It’s great to have a decision made to remove the ban and let those who want to open, open. It's great for the tourists that are coming into the country- they will now have options on Good Friday.”

Mr Lenihan said they will make their decision closer to the time and keep customers up to date on their facebook page.
Trim Tourism Network has also welcomed the decision to permit the sale of alcohol on Good Friday.
PRO David Gorey said: “For years there have been bewildered visitors in our towns and cities across Ireland wondering what has gone wrong.”
“Why are all the pubs and most of the restaurants closed on the Friday of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. Many short stay visitors in the past, have been caught out, they have booked a weekend in one of our cities/towns and when they arrive there is nowhere to go. Now there will be options and this will be very attractive for the overseas visitor who plan their weekends. It's about time!”
He added that Trim Tourism Network will soon be launching their marketing campaign to promote the pubs of Trim.
