Fordrew Rovers look to the future

North East Football League club Fordrew Rovers are looking to build for the future. They aim to set up an u-17 team to take part in the forthcoming 2018 North Eastern Counties Schoolboys/Girls League season.

It's all part of a plan to provide a solid foundation for the future of the club. "This is an extremely important move for Fordrew," said treasurer and former player Brian Faulkner. "Almost 20 years ago an u-16 team was set up and about eight or nine players at least stayed with us and helped us achieve considerable success.

"We won the Fitzsimons Cup twice, the Bradley Shield and went within one game of going up into the Premier Div."

Now in Div 4 the club's first team - which is managed by Paul Clarke, draws its players from Kells, Athboy, Fordstown and other locals areas - is looking to once more provide themselves with a platform for the future.

"It's Paul Clarke's idea to set up an u-17 side and we hope it will help to secure the long-term future of the club," added Faulkner.

The club are holding trials at their Drewstown House base on Saturday, 3rd February at 11am. Those interested can contact chairman Colm Tevlin (085) 1597639 or Paul Clarke (085) 2366324 or show up on the day.
