Navan drops 23 places in litter league.

Navan took a dramatic tumble in the Irish Business Against Litter League, with recent judging leaving them in 34th place out of 40, down from 11th in the previous competition. The judges commented that it had been a poor result for Navan "with only three litter-free sites." The significant slip in cleanliness compared to recent surveys meant that Navan was described as "moderately littered" in comparison to "clean to European norms", which they have been dubbed in previous judgings. The Mayor of Navan, Cllr Tommy Reilly said the results were very disappointing, especially given the fact that the municipal council spends over €1million a year on street cleaning.According to the judges, St Patrick’s Classical School, Pairc Tailteann and Town Centre Shopping Centre were all top ranking sites, but the remainder of the sites surveyed in Navan were littered, some more so than others."Some of the poorer sites suffered from more than just the typical food related litter. The Kells approach road had discarded shopping trolleys, the playground and environs at Boreen Keel had some clothing items and St  Patrick’s Terrace had broken furniture as well as an abandoned trolley."
