Motor tax system fault

People renewing their car tax today will have to wait for their disc as a fault at motor tax offices across the country is preventing discs being printed.

Customers presenting at Navan Motor Tax Office today hoping to get their car taxed are being told they will have their road certificate discs posted to them next week. The tax office is accepting payments however.

A spokesperson for Meath County Council said: "There is currently a nationwide fault that has affected the provision of the Motor Taxation Service. Engineers are currently assessing the situation, unfortunately at present we are unable to state if the service will resume today. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

One customer affected by the glitch posted online saying: "Tax office not issuing tax discs today the system is down. They will take a payment and post your disc next week. Apparently the system is down nationwide and will be up and running Monday. Hope this saves someone a wasted trip."
