Meath manager targets All-Ireland title

Potentially, it's the Irish sports story of the decade.

Meath camogie manager John Davis will send his team out at Croke Park on Sunday for the All-Ireland Intermediate decider scarcely a decade after he took the reins and set about turning a team that couldn't win a game into champions.

Along the way Meath won the All-Ireland Junior B (as it was at the time) in 2009 and then added the All-Ireland Premier Junior title in 2012 - a rare appearance for Meath at Croke Park as the Davis magic began to make a major impact.

Meath moved up the grades in the League by winning the old Div 4 title, then the Div 3 crown was won and last year Meath won the Div 2 title at Birr against Galway and earned a place in the National Camogie League Div 1 for the first time.

The one constant in all that progress was John Davis patrolling the sidelines.

He has a track record of success - he took Meath hurlers to the All-Ireland SHC B title in 1993, he then guided them to the NHL Div 1 in 2000 and along the way there were some major upsets with championship and league wins against teams like Wexford and Offaly.

It was a major achievement by Meath Camogie Board when they recruited John Davis in late 2006 - the story continues next Sunday at Croke Park.
