Boylan to chair cross-party debate on unity

Meath GAA legend Seán Boylan, whose father Sean was a key figure in the 1916 activities in Meath, will chair a major public cross-party debate, 'Meath for Unity', on 27th April next in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan. The debate will see speakers from across the political spectrum including Peadar Tóibín TD, Sinn Féin, John McCallister, Independent Unionist, Minister Damien English, Fine Gael and Shane Cassells TD, Fianna Fáil.

Chair of the event Mairead Hughes says: 'The Meath For Unity Debate was inspired by the recent successful 1916 Commemorations and the heroic efforts of that generation of nation builders to create independence and a full Irish democracy.

'It has also been inspired by the significant political changes that are happening in our time. Brexit, the changed political landscape in the North of Ireland and the growing Scottish Independence Movement has opened up a discussion amongst all sectors of Irish society about how best to protect the Peace Process and grow the emerging all-Ireland economy.'

Similar debates have been held in universities throughout Ireland where student set about discussing the feasibility of unity and the significant opportunities, benefits and efficiencies that could be brought about by working together throughout the whole island of Ireland.

All are welcome for what will prove to be a respectful and robust opportunity to re-imagine how a stronger, healthier and more inclusive Ireland can be built.
