Smiles better for Regina and Helen?

It was all smiles today for Regina Doherty and Helen McEntee appearing to put past differences aside as they welcomed Social Protection Minister, Leo Varadkar, to Dunshaughlin to visit the thriving local community centre.

All eyes however were on East Meath TDs Doherty and McEntee. The Government chief Whip created a storm of controversy earlier this month when she was quoted saying constituency colleague McEntee would “walk past me in the corridor and wouldn’t even blink her eyes”.

Ms McEntee responded by saying the remarks were 'totally inappropriate' and referred them to the party leadership.

Her comments came in same week the week she appeared to break party lines when she said she would be willing to work in power with Sinn Fein.

The Govt Chief Whip and Minister of State at the Dept of Health today joined Dunshaughlin Councillor, Gerry O’Connor, and his team, in giving Minister Varadkar a tour of all that the community centre has to offer - albeit in gentle whispers so as not to disturb the 6th year students from their mock exams which were taking place in the sports hall - before sitting down to a very positive meeting.

In the wake of Leo Varadkar's visit Ms Doherty said “I was very happy with the Minister’s openness and positivity today and I am looking forward to working with Cllr. O’Connor and his team in the weeks and months ahead. Meath is yet again leading the way in community spirit and informing public policy on the national platform.”
