Ewe got to bid for this sheep

Lot 30 at tomorrow's Cootehill Mart is expected to attract special attention with Kildalkey farmer John Canty offering one of his finest pedigree ewes for auction in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

John, who is a sheep and cattle farmer, sadly lost his father Joe last June and felt indebted to the Irish Cancer Society's night nurse service for the support they provided for his father before he passed away.
John came up with the idea of auctioning one of his best hoggets and donating the money raised towards the night nurse service.
“My father passed away in June and the night nurse service was a huge help. We wanted to give something back so we decided to put the ewe up for auction.”
John would expect a sheep like this to achieve around €500 to €600 but hopes it will make more when it goes under the charity hammer.

John's Ewe is 'lot 30' in the Pedigree Texel Ewe sale which takes place at Cootehil Mart at 5pm tomorrow, 30th December.
