Major water mains burst in Trim

A major water mains burst on Trim's Market Street has left around 500 homes and businesses without water today. A river of water gushed down Market Street as the mains 'exploded' at around 9.30am this morning and several businesses were forced to close.

Two units of Trim Fire Service attended the scene to pump water and council staff issued sandbags to affected properties.  Bridge Street was closed and diversions were in place.

Irish water are on the scene and are working to restore supply.

A spokesperson confirmed that around 500 properties are affected and that the majority of the town will be impacted until the repairs are complete.

'Engineers are on site repairing a burst water main on Market Street in Trim. The repair and full water supply is expected to be restored this evening. Approximately 500 premises have had their water supply impacted by the burst.  Some localised flooding to properties in the vicinity of the burst occurred on Market Street.

'Irish Water apologises to all customers impacted by the burst and wishes to reassure them that we are working hard to repair the burst and fully restore the supply as soon as possible.'
