St Cuthbert's and Clann na nGael taste MFC success

There were victories for St Cuthbert's and Clann na nGael in the opening two MFC finals played at Pairc Tailteann today.

Less than twenty-four hours after the SFC  final between Simonstown Gaels and Donaghmore/Ashbourne that attracted 6,000 to the Brews Hill venue supporters were back for the minor finals.

The first game involved Duleek/Bellewstown and St Cuthbert's in the MFC Div 5 final with the throw in at noon. It turned out to be a resounding 5-9 to 1-5 victory for the Saints.

Mikey Buchanan netted the opener for St Cuthbert's and with Eanan Peppard, Cian McBride, Karl Reilly and Eoin Kavanagh (penalty)  also hitting the target the destination of the trophy was known long before the final whistle.

Duleek/Bellewstown never battled until the end and they gave themselves a boost with a second-half goal from Cormac McGroggan but it turned out to be a mere consolation.

In the second final - the MFC Div 3 decider - Clann na nGael defeated the Ballivor/Boardsmill combination by 2-14 to 2-7.

Clann na nGael led all the way including the interval when they were in front by 2-8 to 1-5 with their goals scored by Colie O Griofa and Darragh Swaine.

Morgan Callaghan and Ciaran Dowling pulled goals back for Ballivor/Boardsmill but there was no stopping Clann na nGael on their way to victory.
