Castletown Accordion Orchestra

Learning music can help a child’s confidence

World ranked Castletown Accordion Orchestras are currently inviting new members to join one of their many orchestras. With over 70 musicians currently playing in their four orchestras, from beginners to advanced, they are looking for new members. So that parents and children can see what it is all about the Orchestra Teachers are holding an ‘Open Night' on Friday 9th September from 5.30pm to 7.30pm in St. Kilian's National School, Mullagh, Co. Cavan.

According to Yvonne Chilton, Director of Music and Chair of Castletown Accordion Orchestra, “Research shows that learning to read and play music can help a child's self confidence, concentration and overall development. A study by Gromko (2005) showed that children who receive musical training will develop aural skills for spoken sounds and spoken words faster than children who did not receive musical instruction. A study in 2008 found evidence for greater verbal working memory span in musicians than non-musicians”.

Yvonne continued.”We are now inviting parents to enrol their children with the Castletown Accordion Orchestra. The child does not need an accordion - we provide one. We have programmes for people of all ages, from pre-school to adult. Full details are on our website www.castletownaccordionorchestra.com”.
