All the fun of the fair in Slane on Sunday!

Hot air balloons, a welly throwing competition and duck derby will entertain all the family at this year’s Slane Village Lady Well Fete which will be held in the grounds of Slane Castle on Sunday 21st August.
Other the many other attractions will be vintage tractors and a baking and preserves competition.
Now in its ninth year, the event is supported by the new Slane Distillery which will open its doors to the public in June 2017.
The Slane Village Fete is a family focussed event with something for everyone, and the Fete is weatherproof!
All the proceeds from the Fete will go towards funding the voluntary organisations within Slane. It’s a traditional affair so you won’t find bouncy castles or fairground rides but the kids will enjoy a straw bale castle, giant sandpit and sack races, all of which are free. Don’t miss your chance to win the coveted Golden Welly in the welly throwing competition!
Local artisan food and craft will be strongly represented at the day, with local produce to try and buy, and craft demonstrations from the Slane Craft Collective.
Bakers and bottlers are invited to enter their home produce in the adult and under-14 categories of the popular baking competition, which this year has been expanded to include jams, preserves and pickles.
To celebrate heritage week there will be talks and walks on history and archaeology, and a display of vintage farm machinery.
With live music, a magician, poetry readings and historic tours, there will be no shortage of entertainment on the day.
Dogs on leads are very welcome at the Fete and can enter the dog show. Following its successful launch last year, the Terrier Scurry competition is back and is open to any small dog that loves a chase.
Alex Conyngham of Slane Castle said “The fete is a great day out for the whole family and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors and showing everyone what Slane has to offer in terms of produce, crafts and talent.”
The Slane Village Fete kicks off at 1pm and admission is €5 per adult, with free admission for children. For those coming by car, the entrance to the car park is on the N51 Slane-Navan road, just beyond the castle gates on the left hand side if coming from Slane village. The main pedestrian entrance is opposite Castle Gardens in Slane village. Food and toilets will be available on site
