Ideas sought for Navan healthy town map before Friday

The people of Navan have been sharing their ideas for events and activities for the Pfizer Irish Times Healthy Town. The Healthy Town programme will involve a series of free events, seminars and health checks in the town over an eight week period during September and October this year. Navan native Hector Ó’hEochagáin is Healthy Town 2016 Ambassador and is encouraging everyone to get involved in the programme.

The people of Navan are invited to share ideas for events or activities that could form part of the Healthy Town programme as well as suggesting clubs or groups to potentially be included on the Healthy Town Map of Navan which will be unveiled in September. The Map will be a visual demonstration of Navan and will showcase what the town has to offer from a health and wellbeing perspective. People have until Friday 5th August next to submit ideas on the Healthy Town Ireland Facebook page using the page using #MyHealthyTown.

“We have had a great reaction to the initiative on the Healthy Town Ireland Facebook page with lots of people sharing ideas and suggestions,” said Barry O’Keeffe, Irish Times.

“We will be reviewing all of the submissions over the next few weeks and will reveal the programme and the Healthy Town map at the beginning of September. The final map will be available on the Healthy Town Facebook page and the Irish Times Healthy Town microsite, and if anyone is looking to find out what resources, groups and clubs are available in Navan for health and wellbeing, it will be a great resource. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. I would encourage anyone else with a suggestion to share their idea on the Facebook page before the closing date of 5th August.”

Now in its fifth year, Pfizer-Irish Times Healthy Town is an annual programme that aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of communities around Ireland. ‘Healthy Ireland’, the Department of Health’s national framework for action to improve the health and wellbeing of Ireland, supports the programme. Previous Healthy Towns have included Athlone, Portlaoise, Wicklow and Kilkenny.

Healthy Town 2016 will provide residents of Navan with an opportunity to focus on their l health and wellbeing while inspiring other town residents across Co. Meath and around Ireland to do likewise. It calls on everyone to make simple, small changes to benefit their overall health.

“We’re very much looking forward to the programme kicking off in September!” concluded Barry.
