Kilbride musician Davy hits right note with Euros tune

KILBRIDE man Davy O’Neill, part of the duo who brought us ‘They Royal County’ two years ago, has been at it again- this time penning a song ‘Off to France we go’.

Davy, along with Trevor O’Neill, formed Giddyupskits focusing mostly on comedy skits and parodies and their ‘Royal County’ skit to the tune of Lorde’s ‘Royals’ clocked up more than 100,000 hits in 2014.

“When Ireland qualified for the European Championships, I decided I was definitely going to write a song. After the hype of the Royals Song, we made a bit of a name for ourselves so said I’d definitely write a song,” said Davy.

He wrote the lyrics and guitar himself and then brought it to Marco Pes who plays keyboard with him in a wedding band and between the two of them they penned the music for the other instruments.

Then Davy told how he roped in friends and family, many of whom previously featured in the Royals, to film it about two months ago.

With many people heading off to Poland last time in camper vans, he borrowed a camper van from a friend for the filming, most of which was done around Kilbride, while the crowd scenes were filmed at Ashbourne Rugby Club.

Since posting the song on facebook, it has had 100,000 views and has had 500 shares.Take a look here
