Ladies League set to resume

A fresh season and a new start for ladies football teams around the Royal County this weekend as the 2016 Adult Leagues burst into action with a total of fourteen games down for decision across five divisions, writes Aisling Clery.

The stand out game is the meeting of 2015 Senior Championship finalists Oldcastle and St Ultan's in Div 1 FL. While St Ultan's emerged as champions after extra-time in the replay in St Michael's on a Monday night, Oldcastle pushed them all the way and undoubtedly the 2016 season will be an interesting one.

After their appearance in the Div 2 FL final in 2015 both Dee Rangers and Royal Gaels make the jump to Div 1 football. Dee Rangers take on Boardsmill on Sunday afternoon, while Royal Gaels have home advantage over last year’s League champions Dunboyne.

Dunboyne of course had an extra-long and successful season when they won the All-Ireland Club JFC in December and undoubtedly they will want to get the 2016 season off to a good start on Sunday.

Simonstown have home advantage for their opening tie against Seneschalstown and after running the Yellow Furze side close in last year’s SFC, the North Navan side will want to get 2016 off to a flier.

In Div 2, last year’s Intermediate finalists St Michael's travel to Ratoath for a 2.30pm throw-in, while Moynalvey take on Summerhill and Donaghmore/ Ashbourne host Na Fianna both with early morning 11am starts.

Navan O’Mahonys will travel to Athboy on Sunday evening to take on last year’s Junior A finalists at 5pm.

In Div 3, St Patrick's-Duleek/Bellewstown take on Dunsany while St Colmcille's will take on Boardsmill on Wednesday evening, both games fixed for 8pm. On Friday evening, Oldcastle’s B team will travel down the N3 to take on Skryne, throw in there is set for 8.30pm.

In Div 4, Moylagh host Walterstown on Sunday afternoon while Ballivor host Wolfe Tones (details to be confirmed). In Div 5, St Ultan's host Drumbaragh on Saturday evening at 6pm in Martry.

An exciting few days of club football and we would like to wish all our clubs and their players the very best of luck this weekend!
