The late Frank Kelly.

Death of actor, Frank Kelly

The death has occurred of the actor, Frank Kelly, well known in many various guises to different generations.

His most recent and perhaps, best known, role was as Fr Jack Hackett in Dermot Morgan's 'Fr Ted' series.

From an earlier period, he will be remembered from his roles as various characters in 'Hall's Pictorial Weekly' on RTE television, and then for a children's audience as Professor Astro in 'Wanderly Wagon', with his sidekick, 'Slippery the Snake'.

His parody of 'The 12 Days of Christmas' as Gobnait O'Lunacy with the 'Christmas Countdown' was a festive favourite.

Ironically, Kelly (77), who was suffering from Parkinsons, died on 18th anniversary of Dermot Morgan's sudden passing.
