Blaney edged out at Elite finals

There was no joy for Navan boxer Christopher Blaney last night at IABA Elite Finals at the National Stadium where he was edged out by John Paul Delaney (Emerald Antrim) in the 81 kg category.

Meath man Blaney missed out in the 81kg decider after dislaying great form the previous week in the semi-final against Sean McGlinchey in a tough contest.

However, last night, Delaney produced a fine performance against the Meath boxer that secured the vacant 81kg belt for the Emerald BC ace.

Last night’s Elite finals brought the curtain down on the domestic and international year for Irish boxing.

Meath  woman Natalya Coyle was an interested spectator for Darren O’Neill's bout and O'Neill duly delivered another success.

O’Neill denied the Portlaoise BC a double after defeating Bernard O’Reilly, a brother and team-mate of Michael O'Reilly.
