Seneschalstown celebrate 20 years of success
The most remarkable ladies football team ever to emerge from Meath will this year celebrate their 20th anniversary of their reformation with a special day’s events on Saturday 14th November.
Back in 1995 as the Seneschalstown men celebrated winning the previous year’s Meath SFC, the club’s previously disbanded Ladies Football team was reformed, largely because of the the driving efforts of Dearbhla O’Carroll.
Few back then could have ever envisaged how successful the club would go on to be such a dominant force in the following 20 years, claiming 13 Meath SFC crowns, one Leinster Club SFC title, reaching the All-Ireland SFc Club final in 2003, winning one JFC honour and taking the 2010 all-Ireland seven-a-side competition in 2010.
It true has been a remarkable two decades for the Seneschalstown Ladies club and there is little sign of their powers waning.
Over the years many players from the club have also represented Meath from U-12 right through to senior level including players of the calibre of Deborah Mangan, Louise McKeever, Fiona Mahon and many representatives from the various Sheridan families of the parish.
On Saturday next those wonderful 20 years will be remembered with a day of special events, starting with a special match between the team of 1995 and the 2015 side at the pitch beside kentstown NS from 2pm.
After the game there will be a drinks reception in Maguire’s from 7pm and that will be followed by a post-match post mortem and blast from the last 20 years of football.
