Pat Coldrick on his way to Navan!

Coldrick brings cityjam tour to hometown

Classical guitarist Pat Coldrick will play in his hometown of Navan as part of his CityJam Tour. He is looking forward, with great anticipation to Saturday 26th September when he gets the opportunity to perform to his home crowd.
Pat’s musical formation has not followed normal traditional lines. He honed his skills at the College of Music in Dublin with John Feely and has also studied with world renowned guitarists David Russell and Gabriel Esterellas. His love of the classical guitar dates back to his early teens where he excelled in Feis Ceoil Awards. Then, for about five or six years, in the early 1980s he was lead guitarist with ‘The Memories’, a band which was originally formed as a vocal harmony group. He left ‘The Memories’ in the mid-1980s to set up a furniture manufacturing business and remarkably put aside his guitar for the next twenty-five years. He re-emerged musically six years ago and hasn’t looked back since. In a relatively short period of time he has put together an impressive body of work and has gained considerable recognition throughout Ireland, internationally and by the classical guitar establishment as a very accomplished musician and composer.
Pat’s musical interpretations and compositions make classical guitar exciting, interesting and more accessible to all. By exploring and embracing new technologies he strives to enhance the dynamics of the classical guitar and bring his music to a wider audience both at home and abroad. His music defies genre often described as ‘pushing the boundaries of classical guitar’. While Pat plays his own arrangements of great classical pieces such as ‘Classial Gas’, ‘The Deerhunter’ and ‘Autumn Leaves’, it is his own compositions like ‘Lament’, ‘CityJam’ and ‘Antartctica’ that sets him apart.
Pat’s skillful and atmospheric connection with his audience is an art form in itself and is in total contrast to other more formal classical performances. He has a very easy going, laid back and unassuming approach and his interaction with the audience and philosophy of ‘entertaining’ rather than ‘educating’ his listeners is a breath of fresh air. Once Pat begins to play people are immediately captivated by his dedication, passion and skill. His interpretation and delivery of each piece combined with his superb artistry as a performer results in his unique ability to make his audience laugh and equally move them to tears.
