Great day for lgbt community hannigan

Meath East TD Dominic Hannigan of Labour says that today is another great day for the Irish LGBT community and their families.

'Thanks to Cabinet approval of the Marriage Equality legislation the day when everyone in Ireland will have the same right to get married is even closer,' he stated.

Deputy Hannigan said that people across the country have been anxiously waiting for President Higgins to sign the Marriage Equality legislation.

'I know he will feel an enormous amount of pride when he signs this bill into law. I have been getting phone calls since the 24th May asking me when couples can get married. Due to court challenges I couldn’t give them an answer but now the day is in sight and I can tell them soon!

'I think today will be a day when campaigners and volunteers will think back on the Marriage Equality campaign and they can be very proud that their hard work is making a huge difference to Irish society. The day the result was announced is a day that will live in all our memories for a very long time,' he concluded.
