Motor rally cut short after accident

The ALMC motor car rally was cut short this afternoon after an accident occurred on stage seven that involved competitors and spectators.

The rally started this morning from Trim at 9am and spectators watched the action throughout the day with 106 crews on the seeded entry list.

This evening, the accident happened at about 4pm on the stage known as Jamestown Bog which started close to Bohermeen and finished near Fordstown.

Each stage was to be completed three times and this would have been the third run on the Jamestown Bog stage which was a little over 13 kilometres from start to finish.

The incident involved a rally car that left the road

' As a result of the accident, two spectators and two fellow competitors were injured,' commented a spokesperson for the ALMC.

'The initial medical reports indicate that the injuries, though serious, are not immediately life threatening,' the spokesperson added.

While the rally was not cancelled, the last two stages were not run due to time constraints.

Roads were closed for all the stages, but all the roads are now open again.
