The floodlight pylon in the Commons Road car park.

Repair work not a threat to leinster tie in navan

Meath GAA Co Board could be faced with extra unplanned expenditure of €100,000 to restore the floodlights at Páirc Táilteann once the sums are added up for the current emergency remedial work, but there is no threat to Sunday's leinster SFC quarter-final tie at the stadium.

The on-going maintenance and repairs to the lights was mentioned briefly at Monday night’s Co Board meeting in Skryne, but the costs were not discussed.

Last month a pylon that had a temporary repair in 2012 was dismantled and that structure is currently stored in the Commons Road car park adjacent to the stadium. That will reduce the capacity for parking for Sunday’s Leinster SFC quarter-final between Meath and Wicklow.

The lights on the other three pylons were all removed on Monday as part of an on-going safety-assessment procedure. It is understood that the four clusters of lights could be upgraded after the necessary remedial work is completed and the downed pylon is restored.

MEATH V WICKLOW - SUNDAY

The problem with the dismantled pylon will not restrict access to the stadium for Sunday’s eagerly-awaited Leinster SFC quarter-final between Meath and Wicklow.

Tickets (stand €20, terrace €10) are still available, tickets will also be required for children (stand €5, terrace €3).

Concessions apply for students and senior citizens with rebates upon presentation of appropriate identification at Gate 31 (Commons Road) and Gate 8 (Brews Hill).
